AVRO CF-105 ARROW "201"

1/72 scale diecast

The second release in the "1/72 scale Canadian Heritage Series" by the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum is the legendary Avro CF-105 Arrow "201".

This high quality diecast replica comes factory painted with all markings pad applied for superb results. An option to display the aircraft with wheels up or down is provided, along with a display stand. Length 13 7/8". Wing span 8 3/8". The second release (SKU# CWH003) is painted in the markings of aircraft 25201. Limited edition run of only 3500 pieces.

Arrow “201” has an optional canopy so that the front cockpit can be displayed in the open position. A ladder is also included.

RL201 was the first of five Avro CF-105 Arrows Mk. Is to be completed and flown. All five were used in the flight test program. Mark I Arrows were powered with two Pratt & Whitney J-75 Turbine engines. Each had a base thrust of 12,500 pounds, afterburner thrust increased to 18,500 pounds. After 4 years of testing, design, production and tooling challenges, the official rollout of the Arrow was on October 4, 1957. The event was relegated to the second page of newspapers that day. The front page story informed the world that Russia had launched the first satellite into orbit, "SPUTNIK".

First flight occurred on March 25, 1958. There were only two micro switch failures during the 45 minute flight - a testament to the high quality of work and testing that went into its development. On its third flight, RL201 exceeded the speed of sound. In total it flew 25 hours, 40 minutes during Flight Testing. On the 11th flight, the port landing gear failed to fully rotate on landing. The resulting damage to the gear and airframe kept RL201 off the flight line for five months. Three of the four test pilots flew RL201 - Jan Zurakowski, W “Spud” Potocki and F/Lt. Jack Woodman. Peter Cope did not pilot RL201 during its short existence.
