This is the largely unknown story of RCAF Wing Commander Lloyd V Chadburn DSO+Bar, DFC. He was one of Canada's most decorated fighter pilots of WWII, leading Spitfire Wings into action through 1943/44. Nicknamed "The Angel" for his believed escort would guarantee a safe return home. In more than 100 bomber escort missions over occupied Europe, Chadburn and his Spitfire pilots never lost a single bomber to enemy fighters - a truly remarkable record. His mission ended in a Normandy invasion of the beaches. His legacy is not just his own feats - but in the lives he saved and the trust he built with his fellow airmen. |
