The Museum is proud to offer volunteer opportunities for individuals of all backgrounds and interests, including student volunteers and reenactor volunteers. Each group plays a vital role in helping preserve and share Canada’s rich aviation history.
Tour Guides provide formal public tours of the museum hangar, aircraft, and exhibits while also ensuring the safety of members of the public. Tour Guides also support Educational Services when needed and assist with special events hosted at the museum or off-site.
Engineering volunteers engage in the restoration, repair, and maintenance of museum aircraft as directed by the Chief Engineer. An Aircraft Maintenance Engineer license or equivalent experience and education is required.
Ramp Crew assists with the preparation and movement of museum aircraft. This includes fueling and oiling aircraft, towing and handling in and outside the hangar, maintaining fire safety, and delivering pre-flight safety briefings to passengers.
Archives volunteers support the Curator with cataloguing, organizing, and storing archival materials. Volunteers will conduct research and engage with the public with regards to artifacts, donations, and the collection as directed by the Curator.
Student volunteers are an important part of the Museum's volunteer community. Students will receive
credit for volunteer hours, which may be applied toward the
Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) 40-hour community involvement requirement. While volunteering, students gain hands-on experience in a unique museum and aviation environment and develop valuable life and workplace skills such as teamwork, communication, responsibility, and time management. Student volunteers also gain insight into museum operations, public engagement, and heritage preservation while working alongside knowledgeable staff and experienced volunteers who share a passion for aviation history. These experiences help students build confidence, explore potential career interests, and make meaningful contributions to the Museum.
Reenactor volunteers help bring history to life for visitors of all ages. By portraying military and civilian roles from various periods of aviation history, reenactors add depth and authenticity to the Museum's programs and special events. Wearing historically accurate uniforms and equipment, reenactor volunteers engage with the public through interpretation and storytelling, helping visitors better understand the people, daily life, and historical context behind the aircraft on display. Their participation enhances educational programs, commemorative events, and community outreach activities, creating memorable and immersive experiences for visitors.

Membership with the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum and completion of a Criminal and Vulnerable Sector Check are required in order to volunteer with the Museum. Volunteers must be 15 years of age or older to participate. Training and orientation are provided to ensure all volunteers feel prepared, supported, and confident in their roles.
