NA Canadair Sabre 6
NA Canadair Sabre 6
In 1948 the RCAF chose the North American designed F-86 Sabre as its next fighter to fulfill its NATO commitment in Europe. These Sabres were built by Canadair in Montreal. During the Korean War, approximately 22 Canadian pilots were attached to the USAF (United States Air Force) and flew Sabres in combat. The Canadian designed Sabre 5 and Sabre 6 were built with Avro Orenda engines as opposed to the American counterpart with a General Electric J47 engine.

The Sabre 6 with its extra power and slatted wings was the finest version of the aircraft to be built. It served with the distinction in many air forces around the world into the 1970's, though it stood down in Canada in 1968.

The aircraft served with the Golden Hawks from March until October in 1963. Later that year, No. 6RD Trenton began modifications and installation of the Plexiglas panels viewing panels. It is currently on loan from the National Aviation Museum.
