The port wing went far more smoothly than the starboard wing. The experience gained on the starboard wing permitted the crew to progress quickly and smoothly. In mid May the port wing was raised and installed.
Visitors and professionals alike were awestruck at the incredible technology that was used in building this aircraft. Considering this is 1936 vintage, the leading edge slat concept quite likely made this one of the world's first STOL type aircraft. Each 25 foot wing has three leading edge slats. They have been restored so carefully that one can move them smoothly with one hand. The restoration crew was so proud of its achievement that it was decided to exhibit Lizzie at the Hamilton International Air Show. The crew was understandably apprehensive as the aircraft saw sunlight for the first time in eight months. Crowds quickly gathered at the Lysander exhibit. The on-duty crew were quickly bombarded with questions and glowing comments. What was especially rewarding was the number of people who came forward relating stories of their experiences in building or flying Lysanders during the war.
