In Hamilton alone, there are over 12,000 students at more than 25 schools who cannot rely on supplemental assistance from parents or the community for student funded educational field trips.

FUN and Education

Canadian Warplane Heritage is a PLACE OF LEARNING FOR EVERYONE, a special place where children are encouraged to discover the history and science of Canadian Aviation through our COLLECTION OF AIRCRAFT AND ARTIFACTS.

Education Services

Since 2000, the Education Service's attendance has grown to more than 20,000 students from schools in Hamilton and the GTA - An average of 125 students are on site every day!

For Grade 6 in particular, we have created an exciting approach to the Ontario Science and Technology curriculum, specifically the Properties of Air and the Characteristics of Flight. Classes are held in an aviation environment with "classrooms" situated beside or under the Museum's aircraft.

Professional

Our professional staff consists of pilots, retired teachers and school administrators, Scout and Guide leaders and others who have an intense passion for aviation. All programs use a "student centered" approach to learning, featuring many hands-on activities.

Project "High Flight" Accessible Learning Experiences

Project High Flight - a new Museum program that offers a rare source of inspiration, allowing Grade 6 students from inner city schools the chance to enjoy the same educational opportunities as their peers get to experience.

Providing accessible learning experiences to this group makes the Project High Flight initiative so important and you can make sure young students at these schools are not left out when their families cannot afford to support special educational opportunities for their children.

Sponsorship Support Details: We are requesting sponsorship of one or more "at risk schools" in your area, at $1,250 each. This will allow 2 classes (approximately 25 students per class) and their teachers to participate in the day long program, including instructor and material costs, return bus transportation to the Museum and our hot lunch program. All funds raised for this initiative will go towards the access of Grade Six students from these schools to participate in the Museum's Controlling Aircraft in Flight Program.

Sponsors will receive:

  • an income tax receipt for the donation amount
  • recognition on the Museum’s website for the year
  • sponsor signage placed at class workstations the day of the visit
  • a class field trip photo appropriate for lobby framing
  • each school creates a project with letters, recognizing the sponsor’s significant help following their visit

Project "High Flight" Teacher comments:

"They Loved it. Many inner city students would never be able to afford this opportunity. It was well planned, well organized entertaining and engaging – the kids loved it. The lunch was a great addition. If we want young people to Know about their heritage, we need programs like this. Thank you for thinking of kids that never get these experiences."
